Orthodontic Power Chain Used For Closing Extraction Spaces

Power Chains are core elastic consumables in fixed orthodontic appliances. Formed as a continuous, one-piece elastic chain, they are primarily used for closing extraction spaces, space closure, midline correction, and derotation/uprighting of teeth. They are widely used in conjunction with brackets and orthodontic mini-screws.

    Product Description

Elastics are typically made from medical-grade polymeric elastomers, such as rubber or polyurethane. Common types include ligature ties, separators, elastic chains, and O-rings. They can be presented in chain, thread, tube, or ring forms. Used in orthodontic treatments, they serve various purposes like ligation, tooth separation, traction, and torque application. Power Chains are core elastic consumables in fixed orthodontic appliances. Formed as a continuous, one-piece elastic chain, they are primarily used for closing extraction spaces, space closure, midline correction, and derotation/uprighting of teeth. They are widely used in conjunction with brackets and orthodontic mini-screws .

    Specifications & Models

     Closed Spacing Chain (Closed, 2.8mm)

Features no gaps between the rings, providing the highest initial force and enabling rapid space closure. It is primarily used for the quick closure of extraction spaces and the consolidation of severe, scattered gaps.

    Medium Spacing Chain (Medium, 3.5mm)

Features small gaps between the rings, delivering a gentle and balanced force. It is suitable for routine alignment, managing minor spaces, and fine-tuning the midline. This is the most frequently used type in clinical practice.

    Long Spacing Chain (Long, 4mm)

Features larger gaps between the rings, providing light continuous force with minimal stimulation to the tooth roots. It is commonly used for uprighting teeth, correcting minor rotations, maintaining spaces, and assisting in intrusive/extrusive traction.

    Core Clinical Functions

    Closing Extraction Spaces (Primary Application)

Following orthodontic extractions, elastic chains provide continuous elastic traction to pull anterior teeth backward and posterior teeth forward, progressively eliminating the residual spaces.

    Midline Correction and Arch Alignment

Applied unilaterally for traction, they are used to correct upper and lower dental midline discrepancies and mandibular/maxillary asymmetry (deviation).

Derotation and Uprighting of Tilted Teeth

By wrapping continuously around the brackets, they apply traction to derotate teeth and restore the crowns to their proper alignment and angulation.

    Consolidating Minor Scattered Spaces

Effective in closing scattered diastemas (gaps) between anterior teeth, residual spaces from dental restorations, and minor gaps caused by congenitally missing teeth.

    Combined Traction with Mini-Screws

Used in conjunction with orthodontic mini-screws for en-masse retraction of the entire dentition, improving bimaxillary protrusion, and aiding in the traction of impacted wisdom teeth.

    Advantages

         1.  Continuous One-Piece Structure: Delivers even, multi-point force distribution, providing superior stability during space closure compared to individual elastic ligatures.

2.Comprehensive Range of Options: Available in light, medium, and heavy forces to accommodate a wide variety of cases, from simple to complex.

         3. Soft and Smooth Texture: Significantly reduces the risk of scratching the oral mucosa compared to metal ligature wires.

         4. Flexible Customization: Can be easily cut to any desired length (e.g., 2, 4, or 6 rings) based on the specific size of the space.

5.Single-Use & Sterile: Individually packaged to maintain strict hygiene and prevent cross-infection, while remaining highly cost-effective.

    1
What spacing types are available for your power chains?
Three spacing options: closed, medium and long. Different spacing delivers different force levels for various clinical scenarios.
    2
What color options do you supply?
More than 30 solid‑color options, 20 dual‑color and 11 tri‑color options, including clear, red, blue, purple, yellow, black and other colors.
    3
Why does power chain force decay after placement?
Force decay is an inherent property of polymer elastomers. Clinicians should consider force attenuation and make timely replacement according to patient progress.
    4
Can power chains be autoclave high‑temperature sterilized?
No. High‑pressure steam autoclave will damage elastic performance. EO ethylene oxide sterilization is adopted for finished products. Do not re‑sterilize after opening the package.
    5
    Any clinical tips for doctors?
Select proper spacing type according to required force magnitude; avoid over‑stretching during installation to prevent accelerated force loss; store in cool dry place away from sunlight.
    6
What is your MOQ & sample service?
Small trial orders are acceptable. Samples can be provided, freight cost borne by buyer. Custom colors & packaging are supported.
