Single Curve Torque Spring For Buccolingual Root Control

The Torque Spring is an orthodontic device used to efficiently control the torque of individual teeth. By adding a long moment arm to the main archwire, it continuously applies a light moment, primarily to correct complex root movements such as labial or lingual root tipping.The Torque Springs are available in three sizes (large, medium, and small), comprising a total of five models: 1622, 1725, 1825, 1925, and 2125. They are packaged with 10 pieces per bag.

    Product Introduction

    The torque spring (also known as the door-shaped auxiliary bow or single-curve torque spring) is a  highly efficient device specifically designed for buccolingual root control of single teeth. It is a commonly used orthodontic auxiliary appliance that effectively controls tooth torque. The door-shaped torque spring is inserted into the slot hook of the bracket and secured with ligature wire to ensure stability. Compared to traditional main archwire-bent torque, it features a longer lever arm, greater torque, higher root control efficiency, and does not interfere with the other functions of the main archwire. The door-shaped torque spring comes in three sizes—large, medium, and small—with five models in total: 1622, 1725, 1825, 1925, and 2125. It is sold in bags of 10.

    Structure

    The overall shape is "door/horseshoe", consisting of a U-shaped curve bent from stainless steel wire and spiral retaining clips at both ends. The retaining clip can be directly clamped onto the main archwire, making installation very convenient.

    Material

    Medical grade 304 stainless steel wire is commonly used, which has good elasticity, fatigue resistance, is not easily deformed, and is resistant to oral corrosion.

    Specifications

    Divided into small (about 4mm), medium (about 6mm), and large (about 8mm) according to the height of the U-shaped curve, suitable for different tooth positions and bite spaces; There are also models differentiated by archwire size (16-22, 17-25, etc.) to meet different clinical needs.

    Core Functions

    Single-Tooth Root Control: Traditional methods struggle to adjust the root position of an individual tooth. The gable torque auxiliary is specifically designed for the torque control of single teeth. It is particularly effective in cases where the root is excessively labially prominent and requires lingual root torque, significantly improving orthodontic treatment efficiency.

    Bidirectional Adjustment: Beyond conventional lingual root torque, simply adjusting its placement direction (e.g., positioning the loop toward the cusp) allows it to apply labial root torque. This makes it highly effective in correcting teeth with roots that are excessively tipped lingually.

    Clinical Applicable Scenarios

    1.  Maxillary incisors with palatal misalignment and excessive lip tilt require root control adjustment;

    2. Maxillary canine protrusion on the labial side, requiring compression and control of root torque;

    3. Excessive lip tilt or inward tilt of the front teeth requires individual adjustment of torque for each tooth;

    4. When closing the gap in tooth extraction cases, prevent the anterior teeth from "fan-shaped spreading" and maintain the torque of the anterior teeth;

    5.  Fine adjustment in the later stage of orthodontic treatment to solve the torque deviation of a single tooth.

    Structure and Advantages

    Structural Design: It is typically fabricated as a single piece from medical-grade stainless steel wire or Australian wire. It consists of an inverted "Ω"-shaped retention part (designed to clip onto the bracket or main archwire) and an inverted "U"-shaped activation part (which rests directly against the tooth surface to deliver force).

    Gentle and Sustained Force Delivery: Its spring structure generates continuous, light orthodontic forces. This not only ensures high efficiency in root control but also effectively reduces the risk of adverse complications caused by excessive force, such as bone fenestration and bone dehiscence.

    Longer Moment Arm: The moment arm of a gable torque auxiliary can reach 6 to 8 millimeters. According to the principles of biomechanics, a longer moment arm generates a greater moment.

    Elimination of Play: When the main archwire is smaller than the bracket slot, a "play angle" is created, causing the preset torque force to be dissipated. By clipping or ligating directly to the bracket, the gable torque auxiliary bypasses this issue and prevents the loss of torque force.

    Broad Applicability Across Treatment Stages: Some newly manufactured, ready-to-use gable torque auxiliaries can be secured directly to the bracket, overcoming the limitation of requiring a thick, rigid rectangular archwire. Therefore, they can be utilized across various stages of orthodontic treatment, including initial alignment, mid-treatment space closure, and final detailing.
